In conjunction with my Music video I also had to produce a Digipak that would hold the CD and be sold to customers, so needed to be something that would attract customers and relate to both the song and artist.
In my Research phase I carried out several studies on existing Digipak's to try and get an idea of something that I would like to use within my own, I found that I really liked the use of images to show the character and feel of not only the artist but the songs that they would find on the album itself.
When creating my Digipak I first decided I would use 6 flaps to be able to produce a larger Digipak and also show more conventions of a Digipak, i started by drawing a plan of a digipak on a piece of paper so i would know i was placing the images in the right place to fold in the right way.
This made it very clear for me as where I needed to put my different images in order to have a fully functional Digipak.
I then set up the dimensions from a template I had found on the internet, unfortunately on printing out these dimensions they seem to be a little on the small side and this is something i would have to moderate if I had the time.
Once I had done this I laid out 6 images on the template so I would be sure of the what size image would be in the places and so I would also know where image would need to be laid out.
I edited images using photoshop, I decided to add colour to my digipak to make it bright and appealing rather than having just a plain black and white case as this lacked the energy and enthusiasm that I have tried to put into my video, I did this by changing the rubbing tool to a colour and rubbing out the back ground, this created a bright and fun effect and made a difference from the plain white of the images, as it can only be seen when the Digipak is opened it is also a surprise and hopefully will make a good impression of the album and ill encourage customers to buy it.
This is what the Digipak looks as whole flat.
After Mr Turner looking at my digipak he said he liked it and liked that I had used colours to brighten up the images as they were good images but lacked a bit of power. He then suggested adding a thank you section which I had seen on many professional Digipak's I thought this was a good idea and then added it as can be seen on the Digipak below.
Once I had completed the Digipak on the computer I felt it would be a good idea to make the Digipak to see how it would look in real life, i printed off the Digipak and using cardboard to support it i made my Digipak, as i said earlier in this post unfortunately the sizing appear to be small and my Digipak is smaller than it should be i wish that i had tome to change it as i would to make it bigger, here are the images from the making of my Digipak
Images laid out how I will stick them down.
Images laid on top to mark out where I need to stick and cut
Images all stuck down in the rights places
Front cover
Side joining section
Back panel
Second joining section
Flap Section
Three Panels when open
This is how it looks when it is first opened (right image now has a thank you note on it also)
Inside sections, Middle section would hold the CD
Overall I like the appearance of my Digipak I think it is colourul, fun and has energy around it, I am glad I took the advice of one of my teachers to add colour to brighten it up as I believe this makes it more in-keeping with my video itself. I used a lot of images of my performer as she has a lot of presence and energy in my video and I believe it is important to show that the performer enjoys what they are doing as this transfers to the audience and gives a feel of what the album may have in store for the audience as a Digipak may be the first impression they will get of the new album or artist.
