Construction-Digipak Final Draft

In conjunction with my Music video I also had to produce a Digipak that would hold the CD and be sold to customers, so needed to be something that would attract customers and relate to both the song and artist.
In my Research phase I carried out several studies on existing Digipak's to try and get an idea of something that I would like to use within my own, I found that I really liked the use of images to show the character and feel of not only the artist but the songs that they would find on the album itself.

When creating my Digipak I first decided I would use 6 flaps to be able to produce a larger Digipak and also show more conventions of a Digipak, i started by drawing a plan of a digipak on a piece of paper so i would know i was placing the images in the right place to fold in the right way.
This made it very clear for me as where I needed to put my different images in order to have a fully functional Digipak.

I then set up the dimensions from a template I had found on the internet, unfortunately on printing out these dimensions they seem to be a little on the small side and this is something i would have to moderate if I had the time.
Once I had done this I laid out 6 images on the template so I would be sure of the what size image would be in the places and so I would also know where image would need to be laid out.

I edited images using photoshop, I decided to add colour to my digipak to make it bright and appealing rather than having just a plain black and white case as this lacked the energy and enthusiasm that I have tried to put into my video, I did this by changing the rubbing tool to a colour and rubbing out the back ground, this created a bright and fun effect and made a difference from the plain white of the images, as it can only be seen when the Digipak is opened it is also a surprise and hopefully will make a good impression of the album and ill encourage customers to buy it.

This is what the Digipak looks as whole flat.

After Mr Turner looking at my digipak he said he liked it and liked that I had used colours to brighten up the images as they were good images but lacked a bit of power. He then suggested adding a thank you section which I had seen on many professional Digipak's I thought this was a good idea and then added it as can be seen on the Digipak below.

Once I had completed the Digipak on the computer I felt it would be a good idea to make the Digipak to see how it would look in real life, i printed off the Digipak and using cardboard to support it i made my Digipak, as i said earlier in this post unfortunately the sizing appear to be small and my Digipak is smaller than it should be i wish that i had tome to change it as i would to make it bigger, here are the images from the making of my Digipak

Images laid out how I will stick them down.

Images laid on top to mark out where I need to stick and cut

This is how it looks when it is first opened (right image now has a thank you note on it also)

Inside sections, Middle section would hold the CD

Overall I like the appearance of my Digipak I think it is colourul, fun and has energy around it, I am glad I took the advice of one of my teachers to add colour to brighten it up as I believe this makes it more in-keeping with my video itself. I used a lot of images of my performer as she has a lot of presence and energy in my video and I believe it is important to show that the performer enjoys what they are doing as this transfers to the audience and gives a feel of what the album may have in store for the audience as a Digipak may be the first impression they will get of the new album or artist.

Construction- Magazine Advert Final Edit

This is my final magazine advert to accompany my video and digipak.

Editing:
I completed my magazine advert on publisher as I felt this gave me the best way to set out a clean and structured page which could appeal to my target audience and fit in with my other ancillary task and music video.

Step one: I took the image and I wanted to use which looked like this
I then put the image into Photoshop and took away the back ground so I was left with an image like this. I used this image as it is bold and in your face much like the song and the performer, the picture alone grabs the attention of the reader and hold their attention long enough for them to read and remember if not all the information but at least the picture which will come in useful as I am using the same image for the front of my digipak.

After I had done that I placed the image onto the publisher document, I then went on to add the information that would make it look more like a magazine advert, I dramatically changed the advert from my previous draft which included a different performer as I believed that by changing the advert it fitted my new performer and the new direction I had taken with the video

I chose to add red stars to my magazine advert again to draw attention to an important part of the advert which is the ratings from the music industry, this also joins in with the red lipstick of my performer.

I chose a very bold font for the name of the artist as this establishes exactly who the advert is for and establishes them as important, I used a black font to keep in with the mainly black and white theme which I have stuck with from my first drawings of the adverts (as seen in Planning-design-advert)

In comparison to this I used a very script type fonts for the name of the album to enhance the girly side that I also wanted to portray in ever aspect of my projects, this again is black and fits in with the black and white theme.

I also decided to add on different symbols to increase more realistic as a magazine advert these symbols were that of the recording studies which I had seen during my earlier magazine advert research and then 3 symbols which represent Facebook, Twitter and Itunes which represents places that you can gain more information or purchase the album from.

Construction-Editing

When I first uploaded my videos I had to rename them in order to make it easier during the editing process, so that I would know which clips they were and what information I would specifically get from them.
This shows how I added a Cross dissolve to one of my shots, in this shot I copied the clip, horizontally flipped it placed it on top of the original and cross dissolved it to make a mirrored effect, I had to play with the cross dissolve in order to get a moment where both images crossed over perfectly as seen below.

This shows me adding fast colour corrector to a clip as the scene had a orange tint from the lighting I was using, by using this it changed the white balance to give it a whiter and brighter look rather then the dark tones I got from the lighting I had used when I filmed.

This print screen shows me using Auto contrast to help brighten my images and create a better look throughout the video, this was achieved by going into video effects, adjust and selecting auto contrast then placing it on top of the image in the timeline.
This shows me rendering my clips too help seamlessly stitch the pictures together in order to create a smooth piece this also helps when exporting the video to such places as YouTube.

This shows how I select the export setting.

This shows what setting I needed to select in order to try and obtain a clear image on YouTube

This shows the process of exporting it may take a long time depending on the lenghth and amount of edits in the video.

This is what the file looks like once it has been saved.

Planning- Storyboard

These are my story board initial designs I have annotated the pictures to show my intentions and when i want things to happen. For some reason blogger has turned around some of the images and it will not let me change them back.

Planning-Design for Digipak

These are the images for my digipak that I have drawn to give a rough estimate on how I would like everything to look. For some reason the top image has spun round and it will not edit me to have it the other way.
